Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Hours: 8:45am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: £14.25 – £15.00 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Temporary, with Temp-to-Perm opportunities available

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding role in Crawley?

Pink Tile Education are working with a fantastic SEND college in Crawley that is looking for caring, patient and enthusiastic individuals to join their team and support children and young people aged 1–19 years old with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with professional or personal SEND experience who is passionate about supporting young people to develop their confidence, independence and educational skills.

The Role – SEND Teaching Assistant

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will provide individual and small-group support to students with a range of additional needs. Every student is different, so you will need to be adaptable and able to build positive relationships with young people.

You may be supporting students with needs including autism, complex SEND, communication difficulties, learning difficulties, behavioural needs and other additional needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 and small-group basis

  • Helping students access learning and classroom activities

  • Supporting communication, social skills and independence

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people

  • Supporting students with their individual learning and development

  • Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence

  • Supporting students who may display challenging behaviour

  • Following individual support plans and adapting your approach accordingly

  • Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals

  • Creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment

About You

We are looking for candidates with SEND experience, which can be either professional or personal.

You may already be working as a:

  • SEND Teaching Assistant

  • SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Learning Support Assistant

  • Special Needs Teaching Assistant

  • Support Worker

  • Youth Worker

  • Residential Support Worker

  • SEN Support Worker

Alternatively, you may have personal experience of supporting someone with SEND and want to use that experience within an educational setting.

You will need to be:

  • Caring, patient and empathetic

  • Confident building relationships with children and young people

  • Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations

  • Adaptable and willing to learn

  • A strong team player

  • Reliable and committed

  • Passionate about supporting students with additional needs

Formal qualifications are not essential where you have relevant SEND experience and the right attitude.

Trial Day Required

This SEND college likes to see candidates working with students before offering a position.

Successful candidates will therefore be invited to complete a trial day, giving both you and the school the opportunity to see whether you are the right fit for the role.

You’ll be able to experience the environment, meet the students and demonstrate your approach to supporting young people with SEND.

DBS Requirements

Due to the nature of the role, you must either:

  • Have an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or

  • Be willing to apply for and pay for a new Enhanced DBS check.
