Position: SEND School Support Staff (SEMH Specialist)
Location: Worthing
Salary: £84 – £90 per day
Job Type: Monday – Friday, term time only, 8:30 – 3:30
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join a vibrant SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) specialist school, working with primary-aged children who have a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. This role focuses on supporting children who may exhibit complex behaviours and require strong emotional and behavioural support. The ideal candidate will be resilient, skilled in behaviour management, and passionate about helping children with SEMH needs overcome barriers to learning and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage with their learning and manage their emotions.
• Manage challenging behaviour in line with the school’s positive behaviour strategies, using de-escalation techniques and fostering a safe environment.
• Build trusting and supportive relationships with students, promoting emotional well-being and resilience.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised learning and behaviour plans.
• Support the social and emotional development of students, encouraging positive behaviour and self-regulation strategies.
• Help maintain a structured and inclusive classroom environment, addressing any safeguarding concerns in line with school policies.

What We Are Looking For:

• Experience working with children with SEMH needs or similar (e.g. behavioural or emotional support).
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with young people who may display complex and challenging behaviours.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
• A flexible and proactive attitude, able to adapt to the emotional and behavioural needs of students.
• A passion for supporting the holistic development of young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
