SEMH/Autism Teaching Assistant – Horsham – Small Specialist School

Start Date: September 2025
Location: Horsham
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Pay: £95.82 per day
Contract: 12-week temp-to-perm via Pink Tile Education

We are looking for a resilient, empathetic and proactive individual to support pupils with social, emotional, and communication needs at a small specialist school in Horsham. The pupils here are bright, funny, and capable — they just need the right environment and people around them.

This role would suit someone who is calm under pressure, genuinely enjoys working with children, and has experience with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH, either personally or professionally.

You will be part of a close-knit team of teaching assistants, therapists and teachers who work collaboratively to build strong routines and emotional safety for every student.

Duties Include:

  • Supporting learning and behaviour management in and out of the classroom

  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and engage with the curriculum

  • Using visual aids and communication tools (e.g. PECS, Makaton) where required

  • Providing consistency, patience and warmth to help build trust

  • Working with external specialists and SENCOs to meet EHCP targets

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experienced with Autism or SEMH needs

  • A team player with strong communication skills

  • Comfortable with behaviour support and de-escalation strategies

  • Passionate about inclusive education and pupil wellbeing
