Teaching Assistant – SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) Support

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people’s lives?

We are looking for caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support pupils in small, nurturing SEMH classes. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who need additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them thrive both academically and personally.

You don’t need to have worked in a school before. If you’ve supported children or adults in any setting—care work, youth work, coaching, hospitality, mental health support, or even as a parent—you may already have the skills we’re looking for.


About the Role

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, tailored lessons

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support

  • Help manage behaviour in a calm, consistent and supportive way

  • Encourage emotional regulation and social development

  • Create a safe, nurturing learning environment

  • Assist with daily routines and classroom organisation


Who We’re Looking For

  • Patient, empathetic and understanding individuals

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Resilient and able to stay calm under pressure

  • Passion for supporting children with additional needs

  • Team players who can also use initiative

  • A genuine desire to make a difference


Ideal Backgrounds (but not essential)

  • Psychology students or graduates

  • Youth workers or sports coaches

  • Care workers or support workers

  • Nursery practitioners or teaching assistants

  • Those with experience in mental health or wellbeing roles

  • Anyone looking to transition into education
