Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-time Teaching Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role is crucial in ensuring that all students, regardless of their individual challenges, receive the support and guidance they need to succeed academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- SEMH Support:
- Provide emotional support and guidance to students struggling with social and emotional challenges
- Implement behavior management strategies to create a positive learning environment
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized support plans for students with SEMH needs
- Facilitate small group sessions focusing on social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution
- Monitor and record students’ emotional and behavioral progress
- SEND Support:
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs
- Provide one-on-one support to students with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, or other special needs
- Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of SEND students
- Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure appropriate support strategies are in place
- Assist with the administration of assessments and evaluations for SEND students
- General Teaching Assistant Duties:
- Support the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons
- Prepare and maintain classroom resources and displays
- Supervise students during lessons, break times, and school activities
- Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and behavior
- Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping and data entry
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
- Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs and SEND
- Strong understanding of child development and learning processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in using technology to support learning
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to child protection
- First aid certification (desirable)
