Full-time Teaching Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Full-time Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic primary school team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, have experience working with children, and possess excellent communication skills. This role requires proficiency in Primary TA duties, general Teaching Assistant responsibilities, and Special Educational Needs (SEN) support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering high-quality lessons and learning experiences
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of teaching materials and resources
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, including those with SEN
  • Monitor and record student progress, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Supervise students during break times, lunch periods, and other school activities
  • Assist with classroom management and behavior support
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and other staff members
  • Support the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures

Detailed Responsibilities

1. Classroom Support

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to create a positive and stimulating learning environment. This includes:

  • Setting up the classroom before lessons and tidying up afterward
  • Preparing materials, equipment, and resources for lessons
  • Assisting with displays and creating an engaging classroom atmosphere
  • Supporting the teacher in managing classroom behavior and maintaining discipline
  • Providing feedback to the teacher on student progress and any concerns

2. Student Support

A crucial aspect of your role will be providing direct support to students, including:

  • Working one-on-one or in small groups with students who need additional help
  • Adapting teaching materials to meet the needs of individual students
  • Encouraging student participation and engagement in lessons
  • Supporting students with physical, emotional, or behavioral difficulties
  • Assisting with personal care needs when necessary

3. SEN Support

You will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs, which includes:

  • Implementing strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Providing specialized support for students with specific learning difficulties
  • Assisting with the use of assistive technology or other specialized equipment
  • Collaborating with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure appropriate support
  • Participating in review meetings and contributing to the development of IEPs

4. Assessment and Record Keeping

You will assist in monitoring and recording student progress by:
