Teaching Assistant – SEMH 

Location: Heathfield, East Sussex
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £14.25 per hour, depending on experience
Contract: Temp to Perm
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you passionate about supporting young people and looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?

We are currently looking for a Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH boys’ school in Heathfield, supporting pupils who may have social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside behavioural and additional learning needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and confident, with the ability to build positive relationships and provide consistent support to young people.

The Role

You will be supporting pupils both in and outside of the classroom, helping them to engage with learning and develop their confidence, independence and social skills.

Key duties include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Helping pupils engage positively with lessons and activities
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting classroom learning and following teachers’ instructions
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and life skills
  • Managing challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider support team
  • Maintaining a safe, structured and positive learning environment

Previous experience in education is beneficial but not essential.

We welcome applicants with transferable experience from care, youth work, residential care, sports coaching, mentoring, mental health support, social care, security, community work or similar environments.
