About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-time Teaching Assistant to join our team, providing morning cover and specialized support for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, complex needs, and autism. This role is crucial in ensuring our students receive the individualized attention and support they need to thrive in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH, complex needs, and autism during morning sessions
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and communication abilities
  • Assist with personal care and medical needs when required, following appropriate training and guidelines
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of support strategies
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual student needs
  • Promote independence and life skills development in students
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all students

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH, complex needs, and autism
  • NVQ Level 3 in Teaching Assistance or equivalent qualification (desirable)
  • Understanding of various teaching and behavior management strategies for students with special needs
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and health and safety regulations
  • First aid training (desirable)
  • Experience in implementing positive behavior support strategies
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and alternative communication methods
