SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning? We are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Woking.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to make a genuine difference to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play an important role in creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment across the Woking school community.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to provide tailored support to pupils who may require additional assistance with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and social development.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent and supportive approaches.
  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and engage positively in learning.
  • Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to implement individual support strategies.
  • Maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop independence and achieve their potential.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will be:

Previous experience within a school, youth work, care or support setting would be advantageous, although a positive attitude and genuine commitment to supporting pupils are equally important.
